My Story
James S. Wynecoop began his public safety career in 1975 at the age of nineteen, becoming one of the youngest Tribal Police Officers on the Spokane Reservation. Those early years shaped a lifelong commitment to community service, leadership, and cultural heritage. Over the decades, his career expanded across law enforcement, emergency response, and private security, reflecting both discipline and vision.
In 1985, he served on Alaska’s North Slope as a Security Officer, Firefighter, and EMT in one of the nation’s most remote regions. He later founded Argus Security, growing the company to more than 500 officers before its acquisition in 1989. Returning to public service, Wynecoop served as Police Captain in La Push and later with the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs.
In 1999, he joined the Kalispel Tribe, eventually becoming Executive Director of Public Safety. He retired in 2022 after more than four decades of dedicated service.
